Multi-disciplined project

Having successfully completed the £1.1m refurbishment of Victoria Way car park in Woking many years before, the client used this as a template for the remaining 2305 space town centre car parks. The 3-year partnering scheme involved structural and non-structural repairs to the concrete frames and decks, the application of protective deck coatings, anti-carbonation coatings throughout, new fencing/barriers and replacement expansion joints.

Lighting and Security Upgrade

In conjunction with the structural and cosmetic improvements, the entire lighting system to all three car parks was replaced to comply with current legislation. The system was designed to a 70-lux threshold and featured daylight energy saving equipment. This phase of the project was carefully planned to ensure successful integration with the new centre-wide CCTV system, which will be managed via a newly built and fitted out central control suite housed within the confines of the car park.

Park Mark success

As a result of the refurbishment the Red, Yellow and Blue car parks were awarded the Safer Parking Scheme Park Mark certificate in 2009. All structures scored highly in all areas demonstrating a pleasant environment for all shoppers, users and visitors to Woking.

Award Winning

Following the completion of the project, Woking Borough Council and Matrix were awarded the BPA Best Car Park Refurbishment accolade at the London award ceremony. “The partnership with Matrix has flourished since conception and we have had total confidence in the project team”.
