£1m refurbishment of Brent Cross Shopping Centre Car Parks
15/12/2011
When Brent Cross Shopping Centre opened in 1976 it was the first stand-alone shopping mall in the UK. It was initially constructed in an dumbbell shape running east-west parallel to the North Circular Road, with the two largest stores (John Lewis and Fenwicks) at the ends.
Brent Cross currently offers 8,000 free car-parking spaces, and although it is smaller than more recent shopping centres, it has one of the largest incomes per unit area of retail space in the UK.
Matrix, who provide a unique range of professional surface car park repair and resurfacing solutions, have recently been engaged by Workman and Partners to refurbish the majority of the surrounding tarmacadam car parks at Brent Cross, as well as the perimeter access roads. The £1m scheme, which include drainage alterations, traffic calming measures and re-lining has been programmed over a 20 week duration, with a focus on minimising disruption to both the tenants and their customers.
Neil Wright from Matrix commented – “Our team includes traditional resurfacing professionals who’s strength is ‘getting the job done properly’, with retail focused Project Managers who acknowledge and understand the sensitive environment in which they are working. By adopting this approach, we are able to successfully work in retail park, shopping centre and supermarket surroundings, without negatively impacting on footfall or parking space availability.
