Matrix solution avoids costly disruption at Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre
15/12/2011
Cushman and Wakefield, a Global Real Estate Provider have once again chosen Matrix Solutions to repair and refurbish the elevated service deck at Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre in Sheffield. Located 7 miles from Sheffield city centre, Crystal Peaks offers a one-stop shopping experience with an expanded range of familiar high street names.
The elevated service deck which is situated directly above the centre itself has been undergoing a phased refurbishment to allow the works to progress in line with available funds. A deteriorating asphalt and macadam wearing surface, together with defective expansion joints had led to continual and potentially costly leaks into the units beneath.
Working closely with the Building Consultancy team from Cushman Wakefield, Matrix and their supply chain recommended a flexible buried membrane solution incorporating a sacrificial mastic asphalt wearing surface. This ‘sandwich solution’ not only allows the existing surfacing to remain in place, thus keeping disruption, noise and waste material to an absolute minimum, but with alterations and adaptations to drainage, thresholds and expansion joints provides a full guarantee.
As the service deck remained in use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, works were programmed around peak times to allow HGV’s to continue their deliveries. Critical areas were waterproofed and surfaced out of hours, sometimes around the clock ready for use the following day.
